How the Resus Course Helps in Critical Moments

In the trauma room, every second is often a matter of life and death. There is no margin of error.

The Resus Course by Dr. James Gould MD FRCPC empowers emergency physicians with proper resuscitation training and education, providing them with helpful tools during the highest-pressure situations. Borrowing from evidence-based educational programs, the course utilizes a flipped classroom model, with deliberate practice to enhance resuscitation skills.

Dr. Gould’s specially configured lineup of resus carts by Acart has been tried and tested in The Resus Course to make it easier for emergency personnel to access equipment. The product line is highlighted by specifically designed signage on the equipment that is colour-coded with big bold text. This approach eases the process of locating instruments and supplies for urgent procedures.

“Working with Acart has been seamless from day one,” said Dr. James Gould MD FRCPC,
Assistant Professor Dept. of Emergency Medicine with Dalhousie University; and Trauma Consultant, Trauma Team Leader and Medical Director of Education with Trauma NS. “Acart’s customer service is prompt and efficient. They take a real interest in your needs.”

Acart’s resus carts product lineup features four equipment designs.

The Resus Tower

The resus tower is comprised of a single, enclosed unit with see-through glass doors to enable team members to know what is inside. Each drawer is removable, labelled, and sealed in a plastic wrap. The drawers contain kits, sterile equipment, trays, and bundles that include content lists which are also colour-coded and in big bold letters. The tower is used as a central, stationary unit that can be accessed quickly for various scenarios. Backup drawers are stored on wire carts in the event a seal is broken and one of the drawers needs to be replaced.

The Chest Cart and the Vascular Cart

The chest cart is a mobile procedure cart that can be moved to the patient’s bedside during common resuscitation procedures. Inside, the drawers act as dividers for easy organization and storage. The vascular cart is similar in design and is used for vascular access in resuscitation.

The Resus Cabinet

The resus cabinet is an in-room resuscitation cart used to manage sick patients. The cabinet includes tambour doors which are kept down by default for infection control and open manually when needing to access materials. The cabinet contains common resus equipment and features dividers for easy organization and storage.

Acart’s storage units offer the perfect visual design approach for high-pressure resus rooms. The Resus Course by Dr. Gould has provided the ideal test environment and the carts have been attracting positive feedback daily. The units integrate perfectly with the course’s flipped classroom approach that focuses on hands-on learning during class time.

“We set out to make a resuscitation design that was simple, efficient and universal,” elaborated Dr. Gould. “The product line from Acart is so expansive that we were able to customize a perfect set up for our emergency department. Despite daily use in a very busy emergency department, our mobile procedure carts have stood strong, speaking to the quality build from Acart.”

Consider making your resus equipment easily accessible and visual so emergency physicians can have the least amount of stress during high-acuity scenarios. View our selection of trauma room carts or contact us for more information.
